The first Members’ Get-together of the Association of Retired Flag Rank Officers (ARFRO) for 2026 was held on 21 February at the Navy Headquarters Wardroom, setting the tone for a memorable year of fellowship and renewed camaraderie. The presence of several former Commanders of the Navy and Past Presidents of the Association added distinction to the evening, evoking pride, shared history, and a profound sense of continuity.

From the very beginning, the gathering unfolded in a warm and spirited atmosphere. Laughter, animated conversations, and heartfelt reunions reflected the enduring bonds forged through years of dedicated service. The Navy Band, complemented by lively dance performances, infused the evening with energy and elegance, encouraging members to relax, reminisce, and celebrate together in true naval tradition.

The hospitality extended was exceptional. An impressive spread of carefully prepared Naval cuisine, accompanied by fine refreshments, ensured that guests were treated to both comfort and quality. The gracious hosting and meticulous arrangements contributed greatly to the evening’s success.

A particularly significant moment of the evening was the recognition of Rear Admiral Princely Liyanage for his outstanding achievements. A formal citation was read by the Secretary AVM J P Wanigatunge, following which a commemorative plaque was presented by the President ARFRO ACM G P Bulathsinghala together with General Srilal Weerasooriya , in appreciation of his remarkable accomplishments. The presentation was warmly received by the gathering and added a sense of pride and inspiration to the occasion.

A much-anticipated highlight was the ever-popular Tombola, which brought an added sense of excitement and friendly rivalry. The attractive array of prizes and the spirited participation of members created moments of cheer and light-hearted fun, further strengthening the bonds of fellowship.

Above all, the evening was a tribute to friendship, tradition, and the enduring esprit de corps that defines ARFRO. It was not merely a social gathering, but a reaffirmation of unity, respect, and the shared legacy of service that continues to bind its members together.
