Seven member team of ARFRO headed by the President - ARFRO, Maj Gen Lohan Goonewardene represented ARFRO at the Quiz Night organized by the Organization of Professional Associations on 11 Sept 2020 which was held at the Secretariat Building of OPA. The Organization of Professional Associations of Sri Lanka is a body of professionals presently belonging to 51 member associations catering to 32 disciplines with a total membership of over 50,000 and ARFRO is one of them.

General Deshamanya Denis Perera Oration has been an annual event which has been held at Sir John KotelawalaDefence University every year. In honour of the late General Officer, this event is conducted on the 11 Aug every year, on the day General Denis Perera passed away, with the participation of ARFRO Members and few distinguished invitees that includes the family members of the late General. The orator for the GDDPO - 2019 was Air Marshal Sumangala Dias RWP RSP and three Bars VSV USP MSc (Def&Strat Stu) ndcpsc,Commander of the Sri Lanka Air Force, who delivered a fruitful lecture on the topic of “ The Role of the Defence Establishment in Facing New Threat Dimensions whilst Ensuring National Harmony” and his lecture was well appreciated and commended by the audience.

Generally, ARFRO organizes get-togethers for its membership with an aim to enhance the esprit de corps and comradeship by creating an opportunity for the members to meet each other, build their rapport and network. In a year, minimum of two get-togethers are organized and locations for such get-togethers have always been military establishments. Accordingly, on the 27 Jul 2019, ARFRO organized an “ARFRO Get-together” at the Western Naval Command Wardroom (SLNS Rangalla) with the participation of nearly 100 members.

Admiral (Prof) Jayanath Colombage, member of ARFRO, delivered a lecture on the topic “Ocean Wealth & Ocean Health: Nil Sayura Surakimu” on 11 Jul 2019 at the SLCMP Regimental Officers Mess Polhengoda, Narahenpita. This had been one of the series of lectures organized by ARFRO to enhance the knowledge and awareness of its members which is generally conducted once in a quarter. It was a fruitful, educative and informative lecture which was well attended by the members of ARFRO and serving officers of Tri - Forces along with officers of Kotalawela Defence University and Defence Services Command and Staff College.

23rd AGM of ARFRO was held on 31st May 2019 at the RHQ SLCMP Officers’ Mess at Narahenpita with presence of 62 members. The AGM commenced at 1800 hrs & there were 120 letters/notices submitted by the members requesting to excuse them from AGM. There were many past service commanders of Defence Forces present. AGM commenced with the singing of National Anthem followed by observance of one minute silence in respect of fallen War Heros & ARFRO members.

Popular drama.“Nathuwama Bari Minihek” was staged on 02 Feb 2019 at the Bishop’s Auditorium, Colombo. Two shows were staged, one at 3.30 pm for the benefit of the disabled soldiers and their families which was free of charge and the other at 6.30 pm for the general public. The proceeds of the show will be utilized to enhance the welfare activities launched by the Ranaviru Family Counseling and Support Services (RFCSS) that looks after the well-being and welfare of war widows.
