The ARFRO Masterminds 2023 was successfully concluded on 26th August 2023 at the Golden Rose Banquet Hall in Boralesgamuwa.
It is an event that requires the pooling of at least 300 officers in one location at a given time. Being a competition, and the need to maintain suitable standards, it also falls into the category of a high expenditure project. The need for sufficient sponsoring was a factor that could not be ignored.
With good foresight, planning and plenty of teamwork, the event was executed with a flourish. One team from KDU, five teams from the Sri Lanka AirForce, twenty teams from the Sri Lanka Navy and sixty teams from the Sri Lanka Army took part. Each team consisting of three contestants.
The competition was based on questions posed to the teams on Military History, Current Affairs, General Knowledge, Sports and Science. The level of competition was fixed at mid level management category homing on Major/Captain ranks. The method of competition was answering MCQ type questions.
The competition was won by the team from the Gajaba Regiment. First Runner up was Sri Lanka Navy’s team from the South Eastern Naval Command. Second Runner up was the team from Signals Corp.
The Secretary, Ministry of Defence was the chief guest. The competitors were given an inspiring talk on soldiering by Brig. Rohan Jayasinghe (Retd.). The Secretary Defence too in his speech made reference to the importance of knowledge in every sphere of activity today.
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Maj Gen W G M U R Perera (retd.) performed a wonderful task in achieving the high standards aimed for, with limited resources. In his vote of thanks, Chairman Organising Committee thanked all sub committees for the excellent manner in which they rallied around him to make the event a memorable one.
